Mega Millions Mega Win Confirmed by Louisiana Lottery
(Baton Rouge, LA) The Louisiana Lottery has revealed that a ticket sold in Louisiana for Friday's Mega Millions multi-state lottery game is a big money winner. This marks one of the largest Mega Millions wins in the state in the past month or so.
Our sources at the Louisiana Lottery in Baton Rouge did confirm that the drawing for Friday, August 8, 2025, did have an estimated annuitized top prize of $166 million. The cash option was estimated to be $75.2 million.

As far as the multi-state lottery games go, Mega Millions is less lucrative in Louisiana than Powerball. I think it's because of the many years' head start that Powerball got in the minds of Louisiana players. But since Mega Millions adjusted its format in April, there does seem to be a lot more interest in Mega Millions down along "the Bayou".
Here is how Friday's Mega Millions drawing unfolded.
The confirmation crew at Mega Millions informed us that no tickets sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to win the jackpot prize. A ticket that was purchased in California matched all five of the white balls but missed on the gold "Mega Ball" to win a Match 5 Million prize.
Which Tickets Were Big Winners in Mega Millions on Friday?
There were some big multiplier wins on Friday. In the newly revamped version of Mega Millions, a player is automatically assigned a multiplier on their ticket. It can range from x2 to as high as x10, and it applies to all prizes except the jackpot prize.
The "downside," if you think of it that way, is that under the new format, a ticket costs $5 compared to $3 with the "Megaplier" of old. I think folks who prefer the old way are in the minority because of what happened in Louisiana last night.
Here are the numbers from Friday's Mega Millions drawing:
02 06 08 14 49 Mega Ball 12
As we mentioned, all the big money wins came from the multiplier tickets, and in Louisiana, that was a ticket sold that matched four of the five white balls and the Mega Ball by rule, which is a $10,000 win.
How Big Was Louisiana's Mega Millions Win on Friday Night?
However, under the new Mega Millions format, the Louisiana ticket had an automatic multiplier that doubled the prize amount to $20,000. The Louisiana ticket was just one of seven tickets sold across the Mega Millions footprint that earned a prize larger than $10,000.
The Louisiana Lottery has not confirmed the point of purchase location for this winner, but we expect to get that information shortly. The Mega Millions jackpot will continue to climb ahead of next Tuesday's drawing. The estimated annuitized prize is expected to be $182 million.

How Much is Saturday's Powerball Jackpot?
Tonight is a big night for lottery players in Louisiana. Another reason why more people play Powerball in the state could also be because there are two other big money draw games that share a drawing date and time with "America's Favorite Jackpot Game".
For us, that would be Lotto, which will draw for an extremely winnable jackpot of $1.575 million. I say "winnable" because, based on my lottery formulas, that game should have gotten a winner last week. It's pretty exciting to see that jackpot grow, though.
Easy 5 will also draw in Louisiana tonight. That game has a jackpot prize of $60,000. Easy 5 got a $190,000 winner out of Westwego, Louisiana, last Saturday. The game is one of my favorite draw games to follow. It seems to produce a lot of winners.
What Time is the Powerball Drawing on Saturday Night?
Powerball will draw for participating state lotteries, including Louisiana, at 10 pm Central tonight. The Powerball top prize is estimated to be $482 million for the annuitized version. The cash payout prize is estimated to be $220.8 million.
