Report: LSU Will No Longer Play Alabama Every Year
(KMDL-FM) What sounds like horrible news for college football fans around the world might just be amazing news for brides-to-be and wedding planners all over Louisiana. If a report concerning LSU's Southeastern Conference Football schedule in the future is true, then happy couples will have one more additional weekend in the fall to exchange vows and share nuptials.
If you're not familiar, it's an "only in Louisiana" kind of thing that you don't plan a wedding or any other socialized family event on the day that LSU plays Alabama in football. The two schools have taken the game so seriously in the past that they both tend to schedule "off weeks" on the Saturday before the two teams are scheduled to meet.

Southeastern Conference Reveals Major Football Schedule Changes Today
The Southeastern Conference, of which LSU and Alabama are both member schools, has plans to announce later today who each school's "permanent" opponents would be as the conference adjusts the schedules for all 16 teams in the conference. It is our understanding that the schedule changes will be in effect for the next four years. I could only speculate that perhaps conference officials would then review and regroup if necessary.
One of the best reasons for watching SEC football through the years has been the development of rivalries among teams. The conference is seeking to maintain some of those rivalries, but with 16 teams, chances are someone you used to play will be left off the list.
Which SEC Teams Will No Longer Be Fixtures On LSU's Football Schedule?
According to a report by On3.com reporter Chris Low, and republished by the Louisiana Radio Network, the Tigers will be dropping Alabama and Florida as "permanent opponents". It sure looks as if the SEC is taking two easy games off the Tigers' plate.
I know Alabama has a reputation, but that reputation retired. Alabama is just another marginal SEC football team and should be easy pickings for the Tigers for the next few years. I think the Crimson Tide will go through another coach or two before they "hire a Harbaugh" to right the ship. Meanwhile, the Florida Gators should consider changing their mascot to "dumpster fire."
Which SEC Teams Will LSU Face Every Year Beginning in 2026?
LSU fans will need to get used to seeing Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M as the Tigers' "permanent opponents" starting with the 2026 season and moving forward. I can understand Ole Miss; there is a history. Texas A&M is a good one, too. There is a lot of cross-pollination between those two schools, being Ag-based and all. But the one that makes no sense is Arkansas.
When LSU and Arkansas played for The Boot every year, it was not a big deal. There is no natural rivalry between the two schools. Sure, we share a border, but if you surveyed LSU fans and asked them which team they like to beat the most, I would bet very few would bring up the Razorbacks.
Here is how the new look SEC schedule will break down, according to On3.com
In case you were wondering, Alabama's "permanent opponents" include Auburn, Tennessee, and Mississippi State. The Florida "permanent opponents" are Georgia, South Carolina, and Kentucky.
We expect to receive official confirmation later today, once the SEC makes the announcement official. In the meantime, you can visit On3.com and the story from Chris Low to see how your favorite SEC team is expected to be scheduled.
