MONROE, La. (KMDL-FM) - A Louisiana woman was arrested by the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office after they received a call that a woman was swimming nude on private property in a neighbor's pond, telling police she was "trying to be a mermaid", and was eventually arrested for two counts of battery of a police officer.

Louisiana Woman Arrested Trying To Be A Mermaid

On Tuesday, January 6, 41-year-old Erin Elizabeth Sutton of Marion, Louisiana was arrested and now faces several charges including 2 counts of battery of a police officer, one count of disturbing the peace/drunkenness and one count of criminal trespassing after officers discovered her nude swimming in a neighbor's pond.

According to WAFB.com, a call was made to the Union Parish Sheriff’s Office from a Linville community resident saying that a neighbor was trespassing on their property.

When officers arrived, they found Sutton swimming nude in the caller's pond, initially refusing to get out of the pond telling authorities she was "trying to be a mermaid".

"They say Sutton finally got out of the pond and EMS was called to evaluate her. When asked to step inside a residence, officials say Sutton suddenly charged toward a deputy.

UPSO says Sutton refused to comply and was tased, which reportedly had no effect."

UPSO says Sutton continued to resists officers, leading to her being tased which reportedly had no effect, then eventually assaulting a deputy.

While being transported to the hospital for treatment, authorities say Sutton allegedly threatened to kill EMS staff and deputies.

Sutton's bond has been set at $62,000.
