Louisiana residents who have television subscriptions and/or streaming services are now paying more for those services.

You may recall that a new tax plan was put in place on January 1 in the Bayou State as part of Gov. Jeff Landry's widespread tax plan.

Well, part of that plan involved a new tax voted on in a special session in November that taxes streaming services and television subscriptions.

Streaming services were previously not subject to any state sales tax before this. Now, the State of Louisiana is requiring a 10% sales tax on TV and video streaming services.

If you look at your bill for any of these services, you will begin seeing the additional tax under the "Taxes, Fees and Surcharges" section on your next bill.

This new tax is one of multiple laws designed to modernize the state's tax code.
