Louisiana Ranks as State With Second Lowest Credit Scores in the Country

It looks like Louisiana is on the wrong end of another list. This time it's WalletHub's "States with the Highest & Lowest Credit Scores in 2023" and the Bayou State comes in almost at the bottom.

According to this report, the average credit score in Louisiana is 676, which ranks second-lowest in the United States.

Importance of a Good Credit Score

Of course, your credit score is one of the most important things you'll need to be healthy during your financial life. From getting credit cards to qualifying for home loans to even renting apartments, you want good credit.

Average Credit Score in the U.S.

The average credit score in the U.S. is 696, using the VantageScore model. That puts the average American just below the bottom of the good credit range (700).

Experts say you should strive for at least a 750 credit score, which is the beginning of the excellent credit range.
