Powerball Confirms Louisiana Wins in Wednesday’s Drawing

Christmas is less than a week away and lottery players in Louisiana were hoping for a Christmas miracle in last night's spate of lottery drawings and games. There were drawings in the multi-state game Powerball as well as drawings in the Louisiana-based games of Lotto and Easy 5. Here are the results from Wednesday's lottery drawings.

Last night the Powerball game held its Wednesday drawing for a life-changing jackpot of $575.8 million. If you didn't see the drawing as it happened, here's the replay from December 20, 2023.

The numbers that were revealed in that drawing were as follows:

27   35   41   56   60   Powerball 16   Power Play x2

You may verify those numbers via the official Powerball website. And when you visit that site you will also learn that no single ticket sold for last night's Powerball matched the numbers needed to claim the game's top prize. So, the next time they play Powerball, which will be on Saturday night, the estimated top prize will be $620 million. With a lump sum option of $310.8 million if you happen to win and want to get paid that way.

Wednesday's Powerball created a slew of Match 5 millionaires. Tickets sold in Colorado, Kentucky, and Virginia Matched 5 with the Power Play option so they are worth $2 million today. There were also Match 5 one million dollar winners sold in Kentucky and Rhode Island. Those tickets matched all five of the white balls but did not opt for the Powerball.

Lottery players in Texas fared well in last night's Powerball game. The Texas Lottery is reporting that two tickets sold in the Lone Star State matched the numbers needed to win $100,000 while four other tickets sold in Texas matched the numbers needed to win $50,000 in the December 20th Powerball drawing.

Lottery players in Louisiana were not as fortunate. No ticket sold in Louisiana for last night's Powerball earned more than $200. Only one ticket sold in the state earned that much. There were 21 other $100 winners for last night though.

Is There a Powerball Drawing on Christmas Day?

Granted the next Powerball drawing is on Saturday, December 23rd but the one scheduled after that would take place on Christmas Day if they had a drawing. And yes, we can confirm that Powerball plans on holding a drawing on Christmas Day. 

However, Lottery players in Louisiana should know that there will be no Lotto or Easy 5 drawing on Christmas Day. None of the Louisiana-based games will draw on Christmas Day or Easter Sunday, not that we do lottery drawings on Sunday anyway. 

Speaking of Lotto and Easy 5, there were no big winners in either of those games last night. The Lotto jackpot is now $1.7 million and the Easy 5 jackpot is $70,000. Both of those games will draw on Saturday night.
