Louisiana previously landed inside of the Top 5 of "The Most Sinful States in America" list.

Because we're a bunch of overachievers, we've actually managed to move up a few spots on this list.

The Most Sinful States In America

How is it even possible that a state as a whole can be sinful?

Well, clearly it's not the state, it's the people who live in the state who are responsible for its sinful reputation.

Wallethub.com releases their "Most Sinful States in America" every year, and every year Louisiana lands really high on the list.

From wallethub.com -

"In order to determine the states that most give in to their desires, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 55 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior.

Our data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders."

Of the 55 key indicators used to determine sinfulness, you'll find things like violent crime, jealousy, theft, lack of exercise, teen birth rates, even number of beauty salons per capita.

No, it's not just New Orleans or Mardi Gras contributing to why Louisiana has scored so high on the new sinful list.

Two of the biggest factors as to why we scored so high on the list we don't want to be on...are anger and hatred according to wallethub.com.

WalletHub compared the 50 states across seven key dimensions in addition to the 55 indicators:

1) Anger & Hatred, 2) Jealousy, 3) Excesses & Vices, 4) Greed, 5) Lust, 6) Vanity and 7) Laziness.

Previously, Louisiana took the number 5 spot on the list of "The Most Sinful States in America".

For 2024, we've out done ourselves and moved up to number 2 on the list.

Behind only on Nevada, Louisiana is definitely moving in the wrong direction on this list.

From wallethub.com -

"Louisiana residents use substances irresponsibly more than people in other states, leading the nation in adults who say they have driven drunk, and having one of the highest rates of retail opioid prescriptions.

The obesity rate is one of the highest in the country, too.

Hatred is another deadly sin that rears its head in the Bayou State, as there is an extremely high number of violent crimes per capita relative to most states."

There's actually quite a bit that goes into determining placement on this list, and you can learn about the complete methodology at wallethub.com.
