Oberlin Louisiana is a typical small town in the state. The people are friendly, the parks are nice, and like many small communities, the safety of children is of the utmost importance. Friday, March 3, 2023, was not your typical day in Oberlin. Here's why.

Two juvenile girls were visiting the Town of Oberlin's park on that Friday afternoon. The young women noticed there was a silver hatchback vehicle that appeared to be circling the park and the vehicle's occupant appeared to be watching their every move. Fearing the vehicle's occupant could be up to something sinister the two girls got into their vehicle and left the park.

Later in the afternoon when the young women returned to their residence in Oberlin they noticed the same silver vehicle was parked nearby. The occupant of the vehicle allegedly began to follow the girls again. This information was corroborated in a report published by KVVP Radio in Leesville.

After a short while the two girls pulled into the parking lot of a local business, and they noticed the silver vehicle pulled into a neighboring driveway. That's when the occupant of the silver vehicle got out and approached the young women.

The occupant of the silver vehicle allegedly told the girls he was participating in a church scavenger hunt and that he needed their socks to add to the list of items he needed to collect. The young women gave the man their socks and he offered them a gift card. The man told the young women that the gift card was worth $50 dollars.

The girls reported the incident to law enforcement and deputies in Allen Parish took their statements and viewed surveillance video from the scene. APSO contacted deputies with the Calcasieu Parish Real Time Crime Center and were able to identify the occupant of the silver vehicle as Daniel James LeBleu of Lake Charles.

With assistance from the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff's Department LeBleu was located. A warrant for LeBleu was issued on Monday and an arrest was made on Tuesday. LeBleu was booked into the Allen Parish Jail on charges of stalking. As of this report, no bond had been set for LeBleu. The case remains under investigation. It should be noted that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
