Lafayette Native and Former UL Ragin’ Cajun Hogan Harris Reportedly Called Up By Oakland A’s
It's been a good last few hours for Hogan Harris.
The former STM and Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns pitcher apparently has gotten the call of a lifetime -- he's heading to the Big Leagues!
Harris will soon be donning an Oakland Athletics jersey.
While the transaction hasn't officially made it across the Oakland A's news wire, multiple reports online have confirmed the news.
In addition to the Ragin' Cajuns Diamond Club tweet, Ragin' Cajuns broadcaster Jay Walker shared his happiness with Hogan's dad, Robert Harris.
Longtime Ragin' Cajuns assistant baseball coach and current Chief of Staff for the program, Anthony Babineaux, confirmed the news in a comment in the above post.
26-year-old Harris was drafted by the A's in the third round of the 2018 draft (85th overall) after a stellar three-year career with the Cajuns.
Harris notched a career 12-4 record with a 2.87 ERA in three seasons with Louisiana. In 153.2 innings, he recorded 167 strikeouts with a .227 opponents average.
Harris has made a steady progression throughout his minor league career.
He started Single-A in 2019 but injuries derailed his career and he would miss the next two seasons.
Last year, Harris was called up to Triple-A Las Vegas. By November, he was added to the team's 40-man roster.
In two starts for the Aviators in 2023, Harris is 0-1 with a 6.23 ERA but with only 4.1 innings pitched. Opponents only hit .188 against him in those two starts.
For his minor league career, Harris has 3.26 ERA, throwing 132.2 innings, giving up only 86 hits while striking out 175.
Hopefully, Harris can provide a bit of a spark for his new team. The Oakland A's are currently 3-10 on the young season, which is the worst record in MLB.
