Did You Know Jenny Craig is From Louisiana?
Everyone knows the name, Jenny Craig. Of course, we know it as the weight loss and nutrition company that has been around for about 40 years.
But she's also a real person who's actually from Louisiana.
But why are we talking about Jenny Craig?
Sadly, the company may be finished. According to reports, they've told employees that they're shutting down operations. All locations will close and more than 1,000 employees will be laid off.
Jenny Craig was being shopped to investors, either as a sale or to secure additional financing. However, neither happened so it appears to be done.
Some are saying there is a small chance the company could spin off into an online-only situation, but for now, it looks like that is not the likely outcome.
Who is the real Jenny Craig?
The actual Jenny Craig was born Genevieve Guidroz in Berwick, Louisiana on August 7, 1932. She was raised in New Orleans and married Sidney Craig in 1979.
In 1983, she and her husband created a nutrition, fitness, and weight loss program in Australia and began offering the program in the United States in 1985. The company became a part of Nestlé Nutrition in 2006.
The couple have been great philanthropists over the years. In 1992, they committed $10 million to Fresno State University for its School of Business and Administrative Services, which was later named the Sid Craig School of Business.
