Good news for travelers of Highway 182 in New Iberia. It will re-open on Saturday, August 26 after being closed since Monday afternoon due to a train crashing into a disabled tractor-trailer stuck on the tracks.

According to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office, Highway 182 between Highways 88 and 674 will reopen on Saturday.

The exact time that the roadway will reopen has not been announced.

As you probably recall, the highway was closed starting Monday afternoon, when a tractor-trailer got stuck on the train tracks at a crossing and a train collided with the truck.

Thankfully, the driver of the big rig was not harmed as he was helped out of his semi by an off-duty Iberia Parish Sheriff's Deputy moments before the train crashed into his truck.

The driver of the truck was issued a ticket, however, because he had an oversized load permit and was off the required route.

Louisiana State Police said that the oversized load permit the driver had required him to stay on a certain route. The place where he got stuck on the tracks was not part of that route.

The company that owns the train, BNSF, said that about 20 rail cars and two locomotives carrying freight were derailed in the crash, but no injuries were reported.

"The railroad crossing is equipped with gates, lights, and bells. The cause of the incident is under investigation," BNSF said in a statement.
