When Is the Hulu App Going Away?

According to WAFB, the Hulu app will officially be discontinued sometime in 2026. While an exact shutdown date has not yet been announced, the company has made it clear that Hulu will no longer exist as a separate streaming app once the transition is complete.

Instead, Hulu’s entire content library will be moved to the Disney+ app, eliminating the need for users to switch between multiple apps.

A Disney representative initially said that customers would still be able to purchase a stand‑alone Hulu subscription as well as a stand‑alone Disney+ plan without buying a bundle. However, Disney’s sign-up page does not show individual plan options; the most basic plan available is a Disney+ and Hulu bundle.

Why Is Disney Shutting Down the Hulu App?

Disney recently completed its acquisition of full ownership of Hulu, giving them complete control over Hulu's future. By merging Hulu into Disney+, Disney aims to simplify its streaming which will reduce their operating costs, and provide subscribers with a simpler streaming experience.

The company has already begun this process by offering Hulu content inside Disney+ for bundle subscribers. The 2026 shutdown simply finalizes a transition that’s already underway.

What Happens to Hulu Shows and Movies?

Hulu fans don’t need to panic. Popular Hulu originals, network TV shows, and licensed movies aren’t going anywhere. They will all remain available, just within the Disney+ app instead of on a separate Hulu app.

This means viewers can expect continued access to hit Hulu series, next-day TV episodes, and exclusive content, all searchable and streamable inside Disney+ moving forward in 2026.

Disney became Hulu’s majority owner in 2019 after acquiring 21st Century Fox.

Hulu is best known for offering next-day streaming of network TV shows, including content from ABC, FOX, NBC, and cable networks as well as award winning original programming.
