Disney to Close 3 Iconic Attractions at Florida Resort
(KMDL-FM) What percentage of Louisiana residents have visited a Disney Theme Park? Contemplate this while you contemplate that. Orlando, Florida, is a quick and manageable flight from New Orleans. It's a bit of a "hike" in the car if you drive from Lafayette or Baton Rouge.
And if you live in Shreveport, I'm guessing you're going to be changing planes in Dallas because that seems like the kind of drive that would tear a family unit apart before they could begin fighting on the Disney property. Lord only knows what would happen if we all decided to head west to Disneyland in California.
What Percentage of Americans Have Visited a Disney Theme Park?
But the answer to our query, based on information provided by the National Museum of American History, suggests that between 70 and 90 percent of all Americans have visited a Disney Theme Park. Those figures seem to ring true for Louisiana guests.

The reasons we visit Disney Parks are as varied as the number of guests who walk through the gate. Some come for the thrill of the rides. Some come for the spectacle of the fireworks. Others come because they love to sweat and trip over oblivious parents who don't pay attention while they are pushing their kid around in a stroller.
Most of us have a favorite Disney ride or attraction, but unfortunately, fans of three iconic attractions at the Disney World Park in Orlando are about to fade into history. The park has revealed that as of July 7, 2025, the Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island, and Liberty Square Riverboat, all in Frontier Land, will be closing.
The news isn't all bad; the reason for the closure is for what Disney executives have described as "the largest expansion in the history of Magic Kingdom". The plan is to install a new attraction called Piston Peaks National Park. Which means you probably won't see Woody, Buzz, or the gang from Frozen.
What is the New Attraction Planned for Disney World in Florida?
As you've probably guessed, the new attraction will be based around the hit "Cars" series of movies and shorts. It will also feature an homage to the American Frontier and the Rocky Mountains.

Ride lovers will be pleased to hear the attraction will include off-road vehicles as part of an off-road rally race ride. The park also has some other new attractions set to debut or be reimagined over the next several months.
You'll need to check back with us for specifics on dates and times when you'll be able to wake up at 6 am and pray to the Disney gods that you can book a "lightning lane" or whatever they call what we old-timers remember as a "fast pass".
