Coke Discontinues Two More Flavors – Louisiana Fans React
It's a Friday night in Louisiana. In communities such as Vinton, Leesville, and Breaux Bridge hundreds of fans will be cheering on their hometown high school football team. In many of those stadiums, fans will refresh and re-energize their voices with an ice-cold Coca-Cola. Or as most of us from Shreveport to Alexandria, Lafayette, and beyond call it, a Coke.
Is there a more iconic combination than Friday night lights and a bubbling glass of the iconic soft drink served by a band booster volunteer? I don't think so. Now you fans of Pepsi, don't think we're throwing shade at you, but this is a story about Coke and some recent decisions by the soft drink giant that could affect your personal preferences when it comes to choosing your refreshment.
Not that long ago we brought to your attention the story of how Coke was discontinuing Coca-Cola Spiced. I don't think that product elimination ruffled too many feathers in Louisiana since I couldn't find anyone who had ever tried the flavor. So, dropping it from the Coke lineup made sense.
But now, we are learning that Coke is discontinuing a version of its wildly popular Diet Coke brand and a flavor combination that was made famous in the soda fountains of the 50s and 60s.
If you enjoy Diet Coke with Splenda, you better stock up if you can still find it on your neighborhood store's shelves. Coke said that Diet Coke with Splenda, an artificial no-calorie sweetener, would be discontinued. That makes sense since many Diet Coke drinkers either love the original or have made the move to Coke Zero or Zero Coke with No Sugar or whatever the heck they officially call that drink now.
The other flavor that will be going by the wayside is a personal favorite. Now, I don't normally purchase my Coke in the can or bottle with Cherry and Vanilla but when I go to a Sonic Drive-In, that's what I get. For the best soft drink experience of your life order a "cherry vanilla Coke, extra sweet" at Sonic. You can thank me later.
But if you want Cherry Vanilla Coke in the handy carry-home six-pack or family fridge 12-pack, you'll have to hustle to grab it while you still can. Coke announced they are pulling the plug on that flavor too.
A brand spokesperson said the soda pop giant is always adding new flavors and taking other flavors away as consumer tastes change. So, expect something new from Coke in 2025 as they search for the next big thing in refreshment.
