Fans of the over-the-top travel stop Buc-ee's have just made an official announcement that probably won't sit well with Louisiana fans of the brand. People from Lafayette and Lake Charles have a Buc-ee's that's not too far away in Texas. Fans of Buc-ee's in Shreveport and Monroe have been counting the days until the Ruston location of the iconic travel center will be completed as well.

There have been rumors-a-plenty floating through Acadiana that Buc-ee's is purchasing property for a location that would be centered very close to Lafayette. Some have mentioned the interchange of I-10 and I-49 as a potential location.

The other rumors suggest a location is being considered near the Louisiana Avenue exit off I-10 in Lafayette. And there is another school of thought, once again fueled by unsubstantiated rumors that Breaux Bridge might be the eventual home of a South Louisiana Buc-ee's.

What is the Big Deal About Buc-ee's Anyway?

When you break it down, Buc-ee's is basically a gas station with clean bathrooms and good food. But because of the brand's Texas heritage, they are over-the-top in all of those areas. When your employees can make more money as exclusive bathroom custodians than managers at many fast-food restaurants earn, you must be doing something that the public loves.

The public does love Buc-ee's, not only could you eat off their bathroom floors, not recommended, but you can find a myriad of snack choices, meal choices, and gifts and gas to spend an entire day if you wanted to do so. That's why there seems to be such an interest in having a Buc-ee's location nearby.

Buc-ee's Confirms News That Louisiana Fans Will Not Like

As of today, May 11, 2024, the closest Buc-ee's locations to Louisiana are in Robertsdale, Alabama, and Baytown, Texas as far as travelers along I-10 are concerned. As we mentioned there is a location confirmed for I-20 near Ruston. But the bad news from Buc-ee's concerns the location that is planned for the Mississippi Gulf Coast, less than half an hour from the Louisiana state line.

And while motorists traveling along I-10 between Louisiana and the beaches of Alabama and Florida will start noticing billboards announcing the arrival of Buc-ee's to the Menge Avenue Exit, the fact is you're just going to have to wait a little longer.

At the official groundbreaking of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Buc-ee's those close to the brand suggested that Spring of 2025 would be when guests should expect the facility to open. We have now confirmed that the opening day has been pushed back further into 2025.

The Biloxi Sun Herald Newspaper via their website offered this quote from a Buc-ee's official concerning the change in opening dates.

Buc-ee’s does not comment on their ongoing construction projects, but I can confirm that the opening is currently slated for summer of 2025.

Already there have been some $15 million in improvements to the interchange near where the Harrison County, Mississippi location will be. Those improvements have either been completed or are in the process of completion. The Mississippi Department of Transportation is offering November of this year as a target for the completion of roadway improvements.
