Baton Rouge, Louisiana (KMDL) - A Baton Rouge police officer is in "extremely critical" condition following what is being reported as a targeted hit-and-run crash Monday morning (6/16).

Baton Rouge Officer Targeted In Hit And Run

Monday, June 16, at around 11 a.m. near the intersection of Joor and Prescott roads, Baton Rouge motorcycle officer Sgt. Caleb Eisworth was violently struck by a truck.

WBRZ reports the suspect's truck had been following Eisworth for a short distance before striking his motorcycle and fleeing the scene.

The suspect, Gad Black, 41, was arrested about an hour-and-a-half along Airline Highway near Harry Drive.

 

He is being charged with attempted first-degree murder of a police officer with more charged pending an investigation.

 

 

Shortly after the attack on Sgt. Caleb Eisworth, the suspect, Gad Black, posted to Facebook bragging about his involvement in the attack saying "Check Him Out On Joor Rd. Stretched One".

Authorities also arrested Black's girlfriend, 40-year-old Asia Raby, and booked her for obstruction of justice as well as accessory after the fact to attempted first-degree murder of a police officer.

This isn't Gad Black's first serious run-in with the law.

Back in 2014 he led police on a high speed chase for roughly 15 minutes through Baton Rouge deliberately smashing into police cruisers and other vehicles.
He was eventually caught and completed probation in 2019 according to wbrz.com.
According to theadvocate.com "Black was also charged with attempted burglary and flight from an officer in 2003, and in 2006 with possession of a firearm as a convicted felon."

A 23-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department, Sgt. Caleb Eisworth remains in the hospital in "extremely critical condition".
