It takes a special skill set to live and thrive in the swamps and bayous of Louisiana's coastal marshes. In fact, most of the skills that we will discuss in this article were "not special" skills when I was a kid growing up. In fact, these "skills" were what most of us considered to be basic knowledge. You know, the kind of stuff you'd need to know if you were going to survive in this world.

You see back then we didn't have the convenience of cellphones to call for assistance. So, you either learned how to fix or manipulate things on your own or you learned a workaround. It was all about staying on task or in most our cases, simply finding a way to just get the job done.

Some of you will see the skills we have listed and might think of them as "old-fashioned". But there will come a time when the electricity will be out, the battery will be low, or the Internet won't be available and boy will you be glad you took the time to at least understand these basic skills.

Mastering them at any age is a blessing but you will find that if you can master these skills before you turn 18 years old, you'll be light years ahead of most of the others who are your same age. Alright, let's see what you know, and what you don't know.
