(999 KTDY) - Temperatures in Louisiana tend to rise steadily as we get further into the summer months, and when you add in the heat index, you can see items outside start to melt.

With temperatures getting that hot, we have to take care of ourselves because everyday things can just melt due to the heat. If those things are melting, then what's happening in our bodies?

Some of Louisiana's summers have been brutal. No one needs to tell you it's hot because you're battling to stay cool each day, whether it's raining or not.

The Heat In The South Can Melt Your Face Off

Do you remember this from our colleague Joe Cunningham? It's pretty rough when one of the best-loved icons has his face melt off!

If the plastic on a Buc-ee's sign melts off in the heat, then we obviously need to take care of ourselves.

On a basic level, two of our major organs constantly take a hit from excessive heat. Staying hydrated is key to avoiding injury and death, especially when it comes to our hearts and our brains.
