Louisiana Residents Need to Add These Important Contact Numbers in Phone
(KTDY) - Much of Louisiana and Mississippi were alerted on Thursday, September 25, 2025, that the 911 services across the state were down, and that left many asking who to call in the event of an emergency.
While many agencies did a great job posting to their social media pages informing residents of the number to call for assistance, many were still left without contact numbers for fire, police, and EMT services.
As I was traveling back into Lafayette, the 911 service went down, and I suddenly thought about looking up the local agencies' numbers in the event of an emergency.
Still, that would take time to find when in need, so I thought about doing and suggesting this. We need to all input our local emergency agencies into our phones, so that if the 911 services go down again, we have a direct line to our local agencies.
Here are just a few numbers that we should all add to our contacts today:
Louisiana State Police: (337) 262-5880
Acadian Ambulance: 1-469-513-6577
Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office: (337) 231-6362
Lafayette Police: (337) 291-8600
Lafayette Fire Dept: (337) 232-1400
These are just a few local agencies that you need to add to your contacts. Now, if you live outside of Lafayette Parish, I suggest that you look up your local emergency numbers and add them to your phone.
While we hope that the 911 service never goes down again, we can't be sure of this, and that is why we suggest adding your local emergency contact numbers to your phone. I'd also recommend adding the respective emergency contacts to your kids' phones, if they have their own.
Lastly, being that we are in the social media age, it is also wise to follow your local agencies on various social media platforms. Many of the regional emergency agencies do a great job of getting important information out during an emergency. I highly recommend following your local police and fire departments on Facebook.
Fingers are crossed that we never lose the 911 service again, but you can prepare now for any future outages, and I wouldn't wait another day to add essential contact numbers to your phone.
