Give Back in Acadiana Today For National ‘Do Something Nice’ Day
Thursday, October 5th is National Do Something Nice Day. I know when I am having a rough day or a stressful week. I think about what I can do to serve others to improve my spirits. There are so many worthwhile causes and needs in our community, that I decided to put together a quick list of ideas for how you can help your community. And it’s not just Lafayette, it’s wherever you live. There are schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, and others that can always use your help and would love a helping hand.
I personally love Saint Joseph’s Diner, operated by Catholic charities. Did you know that you can sign up with a group of your coworkers to serve meals to the homeless population in our area? Click here to find out more.
Here are some more good ideas:
Volunteer
Find local organizations or community groups that need volunteers. Whether it's helping at a food bank, participating in a park clean-up, or assisting with a community event, volunteering your time can make a positive impact.

Support local businesses
Patronize local shops, restaurants, and businesses. By spending your money locally, you can help boost the local economy and create a sense of community.

Neighborhood Watch
Help make your community safer by starting or joining a neighborhood watch program. Keeping an eye out for suspicious activity and reporting it to the authorities can contribute to a safer environment for everyone.
Donation Drives
Collect items such as clothing, non-perishable food, or toiletries and donate them to a local shelter or charity. You can also organize a toy drive during the holiday season to provide gifts for children in need.

Teach A Class
Share your knowledge and skills with others in your community. Whether you're a handy person who can help with home repairs, a tutor who can assist students, or a professional who can offer pro bono services, your expertise can be a valuable resource.
The bottom line it’s good to give back. Celebrate today, National Do Something Nice Day, and make the world a better place.
