(Sunset, Louisiana) - Officers with the Sunset Police Department were called out Wednesday morning to rescue a child locked in a vehicle.

KLFY News 10 reports that the child was locked in the vehicle for approximately ten minutes before officers were notified. Luckily, the child never appeared to be in distress.

Because the vehicle was parked in a shaded area, the child, who was locked in it, was never subjected to extreme temperatures.

It reportedly took a team effort for officers to gain access to the child in the vehicle, but they were finally able to reach the child and remove her from the locked vehicle.

Summer Tips For Kids in Vehicles

As summer months roll on, it is vital that parents and guardians inspect their vehicle before exiting it.

If you do lock your child in the vehicle, authorities say to never wait and call 911 immediately. If your child is old enough, it is important to teach him or her how to unlock the doors of your vehicle so that, in the event they do get locked in, they can unlock the doors themselves.

And please remember, never leave a child in a vehicle even if you are only exiting it for a few minutes or even seconds; that's how mishaps happen.
