Reward Offered as Authorities Search for Person Who Shot Bear in Louisiana

Someone shot a black bear in Louisiana and now authorities are asking for your help in locating the person who may be responsible.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries posted this photo of the male bear that was shot on Olitude Road near St. Francisville.

Now, there is a $6,000 reward being offered to whoever may have information on this shooting. The bear was found on Oct. 7th.

Informants can remain anonymous and the tip line is monitored 24 hours a day.

While there have been discussions in Louisiana on an open hunting season for black bears, there is no season yet to legally hunt the animal. The idea of having an open season for bears is to help control the population of bears in the state.

According to Louisiana Sportsman, "Taking a bear during a closed season brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days. Anyone found guilty of shooting this black bear may also face civil restitution for the replacement value of the illegally taken black bear totaling $10,000."
