Louisiana Parents Urged to Be Careful When Posting Back to School Photos Online
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - The kids are going back to school in the days ahead, and now authorities are urging parents to be very careful when posting photos of their kids on social media.
In the days ahead, you will see many parents post photos on social media platforms of their kids on their first day back to school, and those photos could pose a danger to your kid if too much information is given.
Sure, we all want to document our kids going back to school for the memories, but with too much information given, someone could track your kid down at school or even steal their identity. And yes, some people do this.
A post by the DeSoto Parish Sheriff's Office online reminds parents what to avoid doing or publishing when showing your kids returning to school. A simple photo with the school they are attending on their shirt can be enough for someone to find your kid.
Authorities say that you should also avoid providing your child's full name online and never give out their teacher's name in your social media post. Authorities also say never to share your kid's full schedule on social media. You never want a stranger to know your kids' whereabouts, like when and where they are dropped off after school.
Something else to keep in mind when posting photos of your kids returning to school is to avoid sharing the photos with those who you aren't "friends" with on social media. It's really easy to limit who can see your posts; thus, you should not post "public" photos of your child on social media.

I know that this may sound petty, but scammers and "bad people" look for easy access to kids, and it is something we as parents need to be mindful of when posting photos of our kids on social media.
Remember, it's okay to have some privacy in your life, as you never want to jeopardize your kids' safety for a simple photo on Facebook or Instagram.
We hope that you and your kids have a great school year, but please be mindful when showing them off in their new school uniforms in the weeks ahead.
