Strong Thunderstorms Moving Back Into Acadiana on Thursday
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - Another round of severe thunderstorms could impact Acadiana and parts of South Louisiana as you begin your morning commute on Thursday, August 27.
Our media partners in the KATC TV3 Weather Lab are forecasting rain and possibly strong thunderstorms for Thursday morning, and those storms could stretch into the middle to late part of the workday.
In recent days, we have received some much-needed rain across the region, and some of the storms that we've seen move through have produced small hail and damaging winds.
Severe Weather Threat in Acadiana
We could see similar storms stretch across southern Louisiana Thursday morning, just as you drop the kids off at school and head to work. So yes, be sure to bring your rain gear Thursday; you may need it.
The National Weather Service says that as these storms move through on Thursday, they could produce small hail and damaging winds, with some wind gusts ranging from 50-74 mph.
Forecasters do not expect a tornado threat Thursday as storms move across our area. Still, you should brace down any possible projectiles you may have in your yard or on your patio.
If there's any good news about these storms moving into parts of Acadiana on Thursday, it is that it will keep temperatures below the 90-degree mark for the first time in several days, and the area will receive much-needed rainfall.
Keep in mind that, because the ground is so dry, heavy rainfall in a short period could cause rapid runoff, which may lead to flash flooding in areas prone to flooding.
