Louisiana Interstate Shut Down by Fruit
SHREVEPORT, LA - Traffic on I-20 in the middle of Shreveport came to a screeching halt after an overnight crash that left a mess on the freeway.
The wreck happened just after 11pm Monday night on I-20 eastbound between Greenwood Road and Lakeshore Drive. But the massive load spilled over into the westbound lanes.
Shreveport officers closed the 4 inside lanes for most of the night to cleanup the mess.
What Spilled on the Highway?
KEEL News has learned an 18 wheeler loaded with grapes slammed into the center wall and flipped over spilling about 80,000 pounds of grapes all over the roadway. The spill also included hundreds of wooden pallets and other items from the big load.
City crews hope to have the freeway cleaned up in just a few hours.
The driver of the 18 wheeler was rushed to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. No word yet on what caused the wreck.
