The Powerball drawing for a record jackpot of almost $2.0 billion dollars has been delayed because of a technical glitch. As of 0200 AM, Louisiana time. Powerball game officials had still not posted the drawing or announced the numbers.

Here's why.

The initial delay of the 10:30 CST drawing was delayed because one of the participating lotteries across the Powerball footprint needed more time to process its sales. As you might imagine with almost $2.0 billion on the line ticket sales have been brisk in all of the jurisdictions that play Powerball.

Powerball addressed the delay with this statement.

As of now, there has been no indication from Powerball when the actual drawing will take place but game officials plan on making the drawing as soon as all the security and other auditing protocols have been satisfied.

When the drawing is held, the winning numbers will be posted on Twitter and on the Powerball YouTube Channel and Website.

Powerball game officials are reminding ticket holders to hold on to their selections as those tickets will be valid for the drawing when it finally does occur.  The estimated $1.9 billion jackpot is a record amount for the multi-state lottery game.

You might recall Powerball changed the structure of the game back in 2015 so there would be larger jackpots and more winners. That strategy has apparently worked well, now if they can just iron out the technical glitch we will see if we have a big winner.

Following the nationwide Powerball drawing the numbers will be vetted by the Louisiana Lottery and any big wins in Louisiana will be noted on the Louisiana Lottery website.
