In Vermilion Parish, officials with the parish have lifted the mandatory evacuation order for the town of Gueydan.

Rebecca Broussard, who is director of emergency preparedness for Vermilion Parish, said that it is now safe for all residents of Gueydan to return home.

There was a mandatory evacuation order issued there after a levee along LA Highway 713 just north of Gueydan had breached. Around 1,500 residents volunteered to help repair the levee. Also, 4,000-pound sandbags were dropped on the levee by helicopter. When the breach was contained on Saturday, Broussard said that 333 sandbags had been dropped.
