The coronavirus pandemic has taken another festival as a casualty. Yesterday it was announced via Facebook that this year's Gueydan Duck Festival would not be held.

The Gueydan Duck Festival joins a host of other annual events that have either been cancelled or postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As much as I hate to see it, I guess it's the most responsible thing festival organizers could do. The Duck Festival has long been a favorite of ours here at the radio station. We've been honored to serve as Grand Marshal of the Parade and quite frankly the festival is one of the most family-friendly fun times you can have in the state.

The festival was originally set to run August 20th through the 23rd so I guess at some time during that weekend I will make the short drive to Gueydan. I will find a couple of local businesses to pop in and maybe grab a bite to eat or do a little shopping. Not because I feel sorry for the town but because I really like Gueydan and the people that live and work in that community.

I hope you'll do the same for Gueydan and any other community that has had to cancel their major festival for the year. Many of these festivals pump much-needed money back into the communities they serve. Those programs funded by festival dollars will now not be there when they are needed. So, let's try to pick up the slack as best we can.
