A big congratulations to Green Day, who have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Lou Reed and others. The induction ceremony will take place April 18 at the Public Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.

Among the other 2015 inductees are Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, Bill Withers and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Beatles drummer Ringo Starr will receive the Award for Musical Excellence, while R&B group The "5" Royales will receive the Early Influence Award.

Green Day, whose first EP came out in 1989, make it in on their first year of eligibility (25 years after an artist's first significant release). Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong tells Rolling Stone, "I had to go for a walk when I heard the news. We're in incredible company and I'm still trying to make sense of this. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has always held something special for me because my heroes were in there."

Meanwhile, Joan Jett adds, "It's surreal and very humbling. It's a culmination of all you've dreamed about doing as a musician."

Lou Reed, who passed away in 2013, is being inducted for a second time, having already been enshrined into the Rock Hall as the frontman of the Velvet Underground.

Nine Inch Nails, who like Green Day were up for induction on their first year of eligibility, did not make the cut this time. See a list of the other nominees who weren't inducted here.

Once again, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place April 18, 2015, at Cleveland's Public Hall. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning Thursday (Dec. 18).
