One local mother is asking for help to identify the individual(s) responsible for vandalizing the grave of her late son.

According to a viral Facebook post from Sheila Marie, the gravesite belonging to her son Derick Barras was vandalized sometime between 3 p.m. on Wednesday (5/26) and 2:15 p.m. on Thursday (5/27).

Photos of the gravesite (located in a St. Martinville graveyard) show expletives painted in red spray paint all over the headstone and throughout Barras' gravesite.

Many expressed frustration and anger as commenters were outraged to see the damage to the gravesite.

Barras passed away in July of 2020, and less than one year later family members who are still grieving are now dealing with insult added to the injury that comes with losing a loved one.

Marie says she's offering a reward for any information that leads to the arrest of those responsible for the vandalism and is asking for shares in hopes of identifying the parties responsible for the damages.
