Gorillaz Hint at New Music with Instagram Posts
Gorillaz appear to be inching closer to the release of their long-awaited new album.
The latest indication that the LP is nearing release comes courtesy of Gorillaz' new Instagram account, which — as Pitchfork notes — offers a career-spanning overview of the animated group's timeline.
Gorillaz' Instagram debut arrives over a year after members Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn revealed they'd concluded the group's four-year hiatus, with plans to enter the studio last fall. Although they've been mostly quiet on the news front since saying the new record would be out sometime in 2016, fans have been given a few hints as to what they can expect to hear once the LP arrives in stores.
De La Soul's Pos revealed the rap group's involvement in the sessions during an interview with the Guardian, saying their collaboration arose naturally out of the fact that they "love working" with Albarn. "We actually sat down with Damon two weeks ago and he played us some of the new Gorillaz album, and it sounds amazing," he added. "He played us a track that he wants us to get off on his album so we got to get in the studio and put that down."
Whenever it arrives, the new Gorillaz record will mark the group's first full-length effort since their fourth album, 2011's The Fall, which peaked at No. 24 in the United States. It was followed later the same year with the best-of package The Singles Collection 2001–2011.
