By passing Act 453 during the 2009 Louisiana Legislature, the “Annual Louisiana Second Amendment Weekend Holiday Act” was born. This year’s tax free days will be this Friday, September 7th, Saturday, September 8th and Sunday, September 9th.

According to the Louisiana Department of Revenue’s site, the exemption will be on state and local sales and use taxes on purchases like hunting supplies, firearms and ammunition.  This program runs every year on the first Friday through Sunday in September.

So what purchases are eligible for the exemption?  They include:

  • Consumers can buy firearms, ammunition and hunting supplies.
  • Shotguns
  • Rifles
  • Pistols
  • Revolvers
  • Handguns

All the above are eligible to be exempt if they can be sold or bought legally in Louisiana.

Other items that are eligible include:

  1. Ammunition
  2. Hunting supplies
  3. Animal feed that is manufactured and marketed as being for consumption by game
  4. Apparel like safety gear, camouflage clothing, jackets, hats, gloves, face masks
  5. Archery items for hunting like bows, crossbows, arrows, quivers and shafts
  6. Bags to carry game or hunting gear
  7. Binoculars only if they are bought to used for hunting
  8. Decoys
  9. Blinds
  10. Holsters
  11. Hearing protection gear and enhancements
