While we're still waiting for the fourth season to premiere, author of the books that Game of Thrones is based on, George R.R. Martin, says that a movie is already in the works.

For now, it seems that HBO will probably keep the show to about a 7 or 8 season series. While the books expand quite a bit, a movie would probably be a necessary ending.

George R.R. Martin caught up with THR and had this to say about a Game of Thrones movie:

"It all depends on how long the main series runs," he explained. "Do we run for seven years? Do we run for eight? Do we run for 10? The books get bigger and bigger (in scope). It might need a feature to tie things up, something with a feature budget, like $100 million for two hours. Those dragons get real big, you know."

It's still very early in the movie planning stages, but Martin has an idea for the movie already. The "Tales of Dunk and Egg" series, which would make the movie more of a prequel.

HBO has given a couple of their series the silver screen treatment, so it seems extremely plausible that they'd do it for a series that not only deserves it, but would really benefit from a movie.
