The Big Easy is set to host the inaugural Fried Chicken Festival, September 25, 2016, a Lafayette Square in New Orleans.

You would think that someone would have already put together a festival for fried chicken by now, but I guess it's better late than never, right? When I heard the festival was coming to New Orleans it honestly sounded like a match made in heaven with the city that definitely knows how to celebrate—especially when it comes to food.

The festival will be a free outdoor event, featuring food, music and family fun together; all in the name of fried chicken.

There will be a Chicken Wing Eating Contest as well as prizes for Best Fried Chicken and more. Local and national food writers, critics and bloggers will be judging the more than 20 restaurants giving festival-goers their unique take on the classic southern dish.

Of course it's not a festival without entertainment, and musical guests are sure to be announced sooner than later.

For those looking to make weekend plans, here's a friendly public service announcement:

Beyonce will be performing in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Saturday, September 24, The Fried Chicken Festival will take place Sunday, September 25, and the Saints play host to the rival Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football September 26—almost 10 years to the exact day they crushed the Dirty Birds in their first game back home in the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina.

If that doesn't make you want to book your hotel room now, you may want to check your pulse.
