Instagram is a popular photo sharing app that has been available for the iPhone and just last week became available for Android users. Well, Facebook apparently wanted a part of it and purchased Instagram for $1 BILLION!!! No big deal, right?

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today via...facebook:

“I’m excited to share the news that we’ve agreed to acquire Instagram and that their talented team will be joining Facebook. For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests.”

Inquisitr notes that Instagram has been downloaded 30 million times by iPhone users, and in just 24 hours was downloaded more than a million times by Android users.

For those of you that are cringing at this (I personally kinda hate the facebook mobile app, but that's just my opinion) Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom has a message that should put your worries at ease:

Instagram won’t disappear into Facebook. He assured fans that the app “will still be the same one you know and love.” Systrom said:
“It’s important to be clear that Instagram is not going away. We’ll be working with Facebook to evolve Instagram and build the network. We’ll continue to add new features to the product and find new ways to create a better mobile photos experience.”

So, there you go! Instagram and Facebook...together...but seperate.
