Ex Warrant Singer Jani Lane Found Dead At 47

Jani Lane, who shot to fame in the ’80s as the singer of the rock band Warrant, was found dead at a hotel in Los Angeles on Thursday night. TMZ reports that Lane’s body was discovered at a Comfort Inn hotel located in Woodland Hills, CA, which is just outside of Los Angeles. As of now, the official cause of death has not been released by authorities.

Lane, known for belting out the band’s biggest hits like ‘Cherry Pie,’ ‘Heaven,’ ‘Sometimes She Cries’ and ‘Down Boys,’ was only 47 years old. The singer battled alcohol problems rather publicly for quite some time. He was arrested for a DUI in 2010 and was promptly ordered to serve 120 days in jail as a result. It was his second DUI in two years, which indicates that Lane was struggling with substance abuse.

Lane, born John Kennedy Oswald in Ohio, split with Warrant multiple times throughout the course of the band’s long and storied career before leaving permanently in the ’00s to pursue a solo career. He never achieved the level of fame of his late ’80s/early ’90s heyday, when the  ‘Cherry Pie’ video made him and Warrant a staple on MTV. Sadly, Lane had let himself go in recent years, though, and even appeared on ‘Celebrity Fit Club 2′ in 2005.
