An early morning shooting in Lafayette left one person injured and it also included an officer-involved shooting as one of the suspects was being apprehended.

Around 12:21 am on Monday, January 16, Lafayette Police responded to a shots fired call in the 100 block of Guilbeau Road. At the time of the incident, officers in the area noticed a vehicle drive by at a high rate of speed.

The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle but the driver refused to stop. The vehicle continued on with officers behind it in pursuit.

When the vehicle got to the 400 block of Marilyn Street, the two occupants jumped out of the vehicle and fled in an attempt to evade officers.

Officers were able to track one of the suspects, which resulted in an officer-involved shooting.

As is protocol, the Louisiana State Police will be handling the investigation in regard to the officer-involved shooting.

One victim was located in the area where the originating incident occurred and that person was found suffering from a single gunshot wound. That victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and is listed in stable condition.

Investigators are actively working on the case.
