Duson Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide, Feticide Following Crash
A Duson man has been arrested on several charges including vehicular homicide and feticide following a wreck Saturday that left three people and an unborn child dead.
According to State Troopers, 58-year-old Charles Moter was driving a truck north on LA Hwy 343 or Richfield Road around 1:30 Saturday afternoon when he tried to pass another vehicle. Investigators say he came too close to another vehicle and attempted to steer left but struck the right side of an oncoming vehicle being driven by 31-year-old Nathaniel Malone of Duson.
There were four people in Malone’s vehicle at the time of the crash. Malone, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The other three people in the vehicle, who were unrestrained, were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as 33-year-old Joe Wise of Scott, 14-year-old Cassie Kilby of Duson and 16-year-old Kaylin Flyte of Crowley. Flyte was pregnant at the time and her unborn baby died as a result of the crash.
Troopers say Moter and his passenger, 23-year-old Harrison Moore of Lafayette, sustained minor injuries.
Reports indicate Moter was impaired at the time of the crash and toxicology samples have been submitted to the crime lab for analysis.
He is charged with three counts of vehicular homicide, third degree feticide, negligent injuring, driving left of the center and reckless operation.
