On his approach to the preseason:
“The fact is you are limited on reps from the very beginning so you just have to maximize every opportunity and practice situation you have. You want to try and get the best work done that you can. Obviously, every team has new players. We have new young players and free agents that we are trying to get into the mix and help them along as quickly as possible.

“As you look at the preseason games, the mindset is we want to continue to develop some young players. Definitely get in a rhythm as we start thinking about the first game of the season. Obviously, we open up Thursday night against the Packers in the first game. That game will be here before we know it.”

On the new players the Saints have brought in this season:
“I look at some of the guys we brought in like Darren Sproles, who can fill a void and then some. I think that there are a lot of ways that we can use guys like him. We re-signed Lance Moore. We have some young talent at the skill positions. Mark Ingram, one of our first round draft picks – running back out of Alabama. I am excited about all these guys and the dimensions that they bring to our offense.

“For me, I feel like no matter who is in there, because you face it during the year where a guy goes down because he is injured or what have you, a young guy needs to step up and we don’t skip a beat.”

On his show of support for the Navy SEAL Foundation on his social media accounts:
“I tweeted last night about the Navy SEAL Foundation. My wife (Brittany) and I have a foundation of our own the Brees Dream Foundation where we have been able to raise or commit more than 7 million dollars in the New Orleans community, San Diego community and back at Purdue University where we both went to school. There are times where I will see another foundation that is doing great things and I will try to talk about them and raise awareness for what they are doing.”
