Dream Theater Tap Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale as Guest on New Version of ‘Our New World’
Earlier this year, progressive metal stalwarts Dream Theater dropped The Astonishing. By far their most ambitious recording yet, the double concept album is grandiose in scope and execution featuring a mind-bending 34 tracks. "Our New World" is one of the last songs on the record and a previously released single, but a new version has now arrived featuring Halestorm's Lzzy Hale as a guest vocalist and can be heard in the video above.
The three-and-a-half minute song opens with a spotlight guitar lick, radiating with positivity and James LaBrie's crystal pipes. The uplifting song gets a makeover from the original version when Hale's delightfully gritty voice enters on the second verse, carrying into a duet with LaBrie on the chorus. Her voice provides a warm contrast to the Dream Theater singer, giving a new edge to the already powerful "Our New World."
With a busy schedule touring with Halestorm, the frontwoman has found time to contribute other guest appearances both in the studio and onstage. Hale guested on "Forget About the Blame," a bonus track off Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Letters From the Labyrinth and even sang the song with the group live in Cleveland, Ohio. She also sang on Dada Life's "Tic Tic Tic" and joined tourmate Lita Ford onstage to sing "Cherry Bomb" and "Close My Eyes Forever."
Dream Theater have already toured heavily in support of The Astonishing, performing the record in its entirety. They'll continue the trend, packing their bags and heading back out on the road from Oct. 5 through Nov. 1 on their second North American leg. For a full list of stops, click here.
