An assistant principal at Lafayette High is now being promoted to run the school.

Dr. Rachel Brown, who also taught at LHS for ten years before going on to serve as an assistant principal at the Louisiana School for the Deaf, has been appointed to the post by Interim Superintendent Irma Trosclair.

Dr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree and a Bachelor of Science Degree from UL-Lafayette. She earned a Master of Deaf Education Degree from the University of New Orleans and a Ph.D. in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University.

Dr. Brown has been nominated twice for the Lafayette Education Foundation Teacher Award. She has published professional research articles on topics such as leadership, bilingual education, and special education. Dr. Brown also teaches American Sign Language to children and adults.
