The Lafayette Diocese has made a response to recent controversy surrounding a social media post from a local church in Erath.

Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Erath is the subject of controversy after a social media post has garnished the attention of many in the area. The shared post displayed the Church's dismay with the New Orleans Saints after showing support for the New Orleans Superdome and Smoothie King Center's lights, which displayed rainbow colors in support of "Pride Month" and the gay rights movement.

While there have been many different reactions in the comment section of the Church's shared post, Bishop J Douglas Deshotel of the Lafayette Diocese addressed the social media to KLFY. In a statement to the local media outlet, Bishop Deshotel had the following to say:

“In response, Bishop Deshotel references Paragraph 2358 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:  “The number of men and women who have deep seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible.  They do not choose their homosexual condition; for most of them it is a trial.  They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.  Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided.  These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.”
