Sometimes things happen that bring out the 13-year-old boy in all of us. Certainly a book entitled ‘Cooking with Poo’ elicits a response that most likely involves snickering and/or the inevitable question, “Why on earth would anyone want to cook with poo?”

What we’re about to tell you may settle that uneasy feeling in your stomach.

Once a year, book enthusiasts gather in Germany for the Frankfurt Book Fair. In 1978, Bookseller Magazine began a contest that dubs a prize for the most offbeat book title. Former winners for Oddest Book Title of the Year include ‘The Second International Workshop on Nude Mice’, and ‘Bombproof Your Horse’ (did that YEARS ago.)

This year’s lucky winner, ‘Cooking with Poo’, is in actuality a Thai cookbook about cooking with crab. ‘Poo’ happens to be Thai for crab, as well as the author’s unusual nickname. While these two things combined means it makes perfect sense, it doesn’t have us rushing to make or eat  ‘Poo Rangoon,’ ‘Poo Bisque,’ or ‘Poo Cakes’ anytime soon.

‘Cooking with Poo’ beat out such crowd favorites as ‘The Great Singapore Penis Panic and the Future of America Mass Hysteria,’ and ‘A Century of Sand Dredging in the Bristol Channel: Volume Two.’
