Controversial Louisiana High School Sex Survey Bill Passes First Legislative Hump
The Louisiana House Education Committee approved a bill that would allow Louisiana high school students to participate in a national survey on sexual risks.
The bill passed with a vote of 7-4. It now goes before the full House.
Similar bills had been pushed in the house before, but failed.
The bill looks to provide the state with information to help fight teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and other problems.
The survey would be optional to students.
Those who opposed the bill claimed the questionnaire was intrusive, and had their doubts that gathering that information would help in lowering sexually transmitted diseases in teens.
