Louisiana is becoming more and more stricter on it's cigarette smoking laws. Now, it is illegal to flick cigarette butts on the street. There are pretty hefty fines involved for breaking this law. Governor Bobby Jindal has just signed two seperate bills that will prohibit people to smoke near schools and near the public entrances of state-owned buildings.

Governor Jindal signed the bill that prohibits cigarette smoking within 200 feet of public or private K-12 school grounds. That bill goes into effect immediately. The second bill bans smoking within 25 feet of a public entrance of a state-owned building. That bill will not go into effect until January 1st, 2015.

The school smoking ban will come with exceptions. If you live on private property within 200 feet of the school, you are allowed to smoke on your property. You can also smoke in your car within 200 feet of the school. Just don't flick the butt in the street or the ground.

Anyone who violates either law would be fined $25 on a first offense, $50 on a second offense and $100 on a third or subsequent violation.
