According to a Yelp review from a patron, and response from the owner of a California restaurant, Popeyes fried chicken is used to complete dishes on their menu.
The initial Yelp review, which has caused quite the backlash from some vowing never to return to the California restaurant, Sweet Dixie Kitchen, the poster let everyone know that he saw someone walking in the back of the restaurant with two boxes of Popeyes fried chicken.
Thinking that it may be for the crew, he tested the waters, and ordered chicken and waffles. After tasting the chicken, and asking the waiter how they made their chicken, he was told that they get it from Popeyes.
In some other responses to the restaurant serving Popeyes chicken, they claim that the restaurant sells the dish for $13. It's also claimed that on the restaurant's social media account it says that "everything is made from scratch."
The owner of the restaurant, Kim Sanchez, gave a scathing response, ending with "So whatever to you and your little review like it was some great exposure- and whatever to you dude.We do what we do and bring Long Beach the best food - mostly made here but we always get by with a little help from our friends- and we don't want it any other way."
Other Yelp reviewers vowed not to go back to the restaurant, stating that they feel taken advantage of. While some reviewers pushed the claim that it can't be legal for them to buy Popeyes from down the street, and resell it for a markup.
Some said the outing that their chicken comes from Popeyes doesn't bother them, and stuck with the restaurant, giving them a good review.
