While one website speculated that Louisiana Head Football Coach Mark Hudspeth could be a candidate once an opening at Vanderbilt becomes official, another mentioned the school and the coach were working on a contract extension.

coachingsearch.com referenced CBS' Jeremy Fowler that a new contract could be in the works for Hudspeth, who has led the Cajuns to a 27-12 record and three consecutive bowl wins.

Hudspeth confirmed talks with UL are taking place.

"Ive been approached by Scott Farmer about a contract extension," Hudspeth said.  "I am very grateful that Scott and the administration notice the progress our staff and team have made in the last three years.  Tyla and I love Lafayette and are excited about working something out."

Ironically, the website fansided.com, used the same CBS source as saying Hudspeth might be a prime candidate to replace James Franklin at the SEC school.  It has been reported Franklin has agreed to become the new head coach at Penn State.  Neither Franklin nor the schools have confirmed that report.  The website sbnation.com also listed Hudspeth as a possibility.

Hudspeth received a contract extension and a substantial raise after his first season, when he led the Cajuns to a 9-4 record and the school's first bowl appearance in 41 years.
