Cajun Navy Asks for Help With Search For Missing Boys
A search of the Mississippi River for two missing boys is still going on after 20 days. Gunner Palmer, 16-years-old, and Zeb Hughes, 21-years-old, disappeared on December 3rd while they were duck hunting near Davis Island. Hughes’ black lab, Kye, is also missing. That night is when the search began.
The Warren County Sheriff’s Office and agents from the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks continue to search an area approximately 65 miles long from just north of LeTourneau landing south to Natchez, according to Vicksburgnews.
Monday, a group used a spud barge as a platform to send sonar imaging equipment deep into the river and Tuesday a plane owned by a Madison Parish Reserve Deputy joined the search. The United Cajun Navy also launched boats and planes from Vidalia.
The United Cajun Navy posted on Facebook a plea for help. The post says they need volunteers with boats that have side scan sonar capable of navigating the Mississippi River to assist in a large-scale search for the missing boys. They said, “Not everyone can assist in the search for the missing boys, but EVERYONE can share this post and PRAY for the families and safety of those involved in search efforts.
In a post on Wednesday, they said So far Christmas Eve and Christmas day Volunteer boaters are uncertain at this time. However, weather forecast for Saturday and Sunday is trending better with sunny skies and low temps in mid to upper 30's and highs in upper 50's.
If this forecasted weather holds up for the weekend, planes and helicopters will once again assist boaters in the search.
