Broussard Man Behind Bars After Stabbing Wife With A Fork

Broussard man Gerald Shanks (no pun intended) is behind bars for allegedly stabbing his wife in the leg with a fork.

Police were called to the home of Gerald Shanks, 52, 203 Pear Tree Circle, on Sunday following a complaint from his wife.

According to police, Shanks and his wife were arguing over his wife's use of Facebook and a possible text message from another man.

His wife claims Shanks slapped her across the face and then stabbed her in her right calf with the fork. He allegedly ran outside with the fork after the incident. Police say the fork was never found.

She said Shanks destroyed her cell phone, so she had to run to a neighbor's house and call for help.

Shanks told police he never touched his wife and said her injuries were self-inflicted.

The couple admitted to police that they had been drinking heavily. No bond was set as of 9 a.m. Monday, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office JADES website.
