A  Plaquemines Parish deputy was injured after an ATV rider hit him during a chase in May.

Both the rider and the deputy sustained life-threatening injuries, but since the accident, both have been released from the hospital.

According to WWL-TV,  the deputy lost a leg as a result of this crash, and the ATV rider sustained serious head injuries.

The charges for the 18-year-old driver have been downgraded from attempted murder to aggravated second-degree battery in this case.

The dash cam video of the pursuit and crash, which is disturbing, has been released to the public and in the video, you can hear a deputy relay a message where he says, "Smoke him."

The crash occurred on the Orleans Parish side of the parish line in May and it was near the foot of the Woodland Bridge, which is over the Intracoastal Waterway.

Now the family of the ATV rider is asking questions and they say that this was not intentional. They also say that the ATV rider was not driving recklessly and was simply trying to get away from the deputies because he feared for his safety.

The deputy that was injured in the crash was in the roadway setting up spike strips.

Here's the video of the ATV rider striking the deputy. I'll warn you, some may find this video to be DISTURBING.

Now, you can check out the full report from WWL on this story.
